As a Christian Church, Lone Oak is a self-governing congregation. That means there is no national organization or denomination controlling us. Our goal is simply to follow in doctrine, life, and practice the church founded by Jesus Christ.
We seek the unity of all followers of Christ. This was Christ's goal for His church. He prayed, "...that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You" (John 17:21). This unity should be in spirit and in practice (I Corinthians 1:10).
Jesus prayed for this unity, "...that the world may believe that you have sent me" (John 17:21). The salvation of the world by spreading the gospel is the task of Christ and His church; a task, unfortunately, slowed by division. So to the best of our abilities and with the help of God we strive to "keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Eph. 4:3) in all of our work.
The only name we use is the one in the Bible for the followers of Christ: Christians (Acts 11:26). Our only creed is the belief in Christ (Matthew 16:16). We have no rule of faith and practice, but the Bible (II Timothy 3:16,17). We practice baptism by immersion in obedience to Christ. Each week, we celebrate the Lord's Supper as a memorial of our Lord's death for our salvation (I Corinthians 11:23-30). Our program is as broad and as narrow as the New Testament itself.
Like many independent Christian churches, Lone Oak Christian Church is a product of the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement. This movement to restore the church of the New Testament began some 150 years ago by people whose words are still true today,
"Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent. In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love."
